Chris Keene

Chris founded Friends of Embarcadero Bricks in 2022 to help revitalize downtown San Franc`isco in the wake of the pandemic. His goal was to replicate the community impact and success of Noe Valley Town Square, which he also founded.

Working in partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Chris secured a $400,000 pilot grant from SF Office of Economic and Workforce Development in 2024 to launch the Summer Bricks project.

The initiative demonstrated the community benefits of activating Embarcadero Plaza and led to the 2025 commitment from the city to provide $30M in funding to renovate the park (in partnership with BXP, the owner of Embarcadero Center).

Chris also founded Friends of Slow Sanchez, which has grown into San Francisco’s most successful neighborhood slow street initiative.
